今日はAdirondack Parkについて簡単にお話ししたいと思います。
Today, I would like to talk a little bit about the Adirondack Park.
Adirondack Parkは実はアメリカ人に取って史上初の自然公園で、フランスとインディアン(Native American)たちの戦争が終わった後にホテルやリゾート地を設け、バケーション地となり、それがその後の自然公園として他の地でも広まっていったそうです。
The Adirondack Park was the first place Americans considered wilderness as a feature of the United States. After the French and Indian War, Americans and European made there hotels and resorts so that people can come to have some vacations. After here, they made more of leisure wilderness park.
今日はニューヨークシティでも有名な川、ハドソンリバーを渡ってきました！
Today we just crossed the famous river that goes to New York City, the Hudson River!!
ハドソンリバー、地図上で辿っていくとかなり長いです！
The Hudson River seems like a very long river when you actually look at it on map.
このハドソンリバー沿いを昔のNative Americanたちは狩場として使っていたため、通路が元々確保できていました。
その通路をそのままヨーロッパ人が使ったため、交通の便もリゾート地として最高だったようです。
Native Americans were hunting along by the Hudson River and therefore they had their own trail by the river. Americans and Europeans used the same trail after the war and so transportation from towns to the Adirondacks were easy and worked great as a resorts.
Adirondack Parkには46個のHigh Peakと呼ばれる山があります。
ここでのHigh Peakとは標高3820ft(1164.336m)以上の山々のことを指しています。
この46個の山々全てを登山制覇してやる！というハイカーも多くいて、ハイキングに大人気。彼らのことをAdirondacks 46erと呼ぶらしい！
川や湖もあるのでカヤックや魚釣りなどのアウトドア、ゴルフにも人気です。
Adirondacks have 46 high peaks in total.
High peaks meaning mountains that have more than 3820ft of heights.
There are hikers who aim to hike all those mountains so it’s a famous and popular spot for people to hike. People called them the “Adirondacks 46er!”
Of course there are rivers and lakes so many people come here to kayak and to fish too. Golf is popular as well.
1932年と1980年、2度に渡ってオリンピックの開催地ともなったため、スキーやボブスレーなど、そう言った競技を目的に来られる人達も多く、夏場&冬場の観光スポット！
In 1932 and 1980, they had 2 Winter Olympics in the Adirondacks. Therefore they have a place called Olympic Park inside the Adirondacks. They seem popular for people who likes to Ski and to Bobsled.
現在は観光客が多すぎるようで、見渡す限り大自然のため、多くの人が自然に用を足しますが、結果何万という人が来られるため、自然管理などが大変になりつつあるようです。
とはいえ、巨大な公園。
日本で言ったら最低でも1つの県は平気で埋まるだろう大きさです。
......なんていう考えがもしかしたら甘いのかもしれませんね。
Nowadays, because of all those tourists coming here every weekends, people pee or poop in nature(think over 10,000 people will do that), people in the Adirondacks are concern about how to save and solve the nature problem.
Even though, it’s a huge park and probably at least one of the prefectures in Japan can easily fit in this park, makes me think how much would it really be a problem... however, that’s not a good thought I guess.
今日は山を一つ丸々自転車で乗り越え、標高は572mくらいの山でした。
日本の山々と比べると土地が広いからなのか、火山ではないからなのか、一気に駆け上がる長い坂道はありますが、そのあと平坦があって、そしてまた登ると言った感じで、登りっぱなしではありません。
なので今のところは単発的に頑張れば登れるという印象です。
Today we went over 1 mountain by bicycle! The height was 1908ft.
There were hills that were really long to climb up. However, compared to Japanese mountains — maybe because the US isn’t made up mostly of volcanos — there were many flat parts in between hills as well. It wasn’t like a climb for the whole entire way straight up!
思いっきり坂道の、休憩場所なしの長い長い登り坂、箱根を越えるような山はアメリカにもあるのでしょうか？きっとあるのでしょう。
きっついですけどその日が来るのが楽しみです。
I wonder if there are any mountains in the US that’s like a Mt. Hakone or even harder one, I’m sure there are.
Just climbing up for entire day without any flat miles, just a long long climb up hill.
It’s going to be a really tough day for sure however, I am looking forward for it:)
