Essex,NY>

Hello!! It’s Hugh Yamada!!

Today, we started to head back on the road with our bicycles to make “Going S” happen!

We left Vermont State this morning and we are in New York State right now!

You can go to New York from Burlington with a ferry and there are 3 different ways to go!

The first one is specifically for bicycles and they are famous for many cycling people.

The second one is for cars and for others. It takes about 2 hours to get in NY by ferry and it goes straight through to cut the middle of lake.

The third one is also for cars and for others. Although you need to go down to south in VT state before get on a ferry, however it only takes 25 minutes to get in NY by ferry.

Everyone who likes cycling recommended us to use the bike ferry. However, to get on that ferry, we need to go north in VT and it also goes even northern of NY so we decided not to take that and instead take the last option that I wrote earlier.

The ferry port is at the southern town from Burlington, Charlotte, and so we were heading towards there. On our way of, we saw a great views with a huge open space, flowers around, lakes and mountains are behind some of houses on the route 7. They were gorgeous!!

The time on the ferry turned out to be my 25 minutes sketch time!!

When I started doing the sketch, many people who were in their cars came out and tried taking pictures of the mountains in the Adirondack Park in NY.

One of them, a boy came to me and started asking me below questions.

a boy “what are you doing?”

me “I’m doing a sketch”

a boy “but why?”

me “cause I wanted to!”

I wasn’t sure if that was a good answer for him but he kept asking me more and more questions.

The boy told me that he also paints so I decided to give him a water brush that I use all the time because I have 2 more in my guitar case.

And then he asked me “where do you want me to paint?” So I asked him to paint the deck on the ship. Now it’s a collaboration art :)

After finishing up the sketch, I tried to take picture of the sketch and the view together as how I usually do. However, wind was too strong for me to do that and so the boy’s mother came and helped me taking that picture!

After getting off from the ferry, we were heading south towards to the town called Paradox.

About an hour or so, I found a waterfall on my right side when we were crossing a bridge. It just made me want to stop and take picture of it so we stopped at there.

Right after we stopped, not even start taking pictures yet, we met that boy and mother again!

The waterfall was right next to a library and they were there for returning and rent some more books. The boy was really into our bicycles!

While Jay taking care of the boy with his bicycle, I was talking with his mother and I found out that  she is planning on to going across the AFRICA by bicycle!!!!! That’s awesome!! I want to do that too!!!

When she was only 9 years old, she rode a bicycle to going around the Greece with her parents. Her parents’ pace were too fast for 9 years old kid at the beginning of the trip so they were pacing with their child at the beginning. However, by the end of the trip, 9 years old kid was faster than her parents said by the her  mother!

Travelling with own child, on bicycle, somewhere out of their origin country must be tough although sounds like an amazing experience to have it.

“By the way, we can see that waterfall from inside the library too! It’s a really nice library! I have a friend who works here too! Let’s see if she is there and maybe she let you play some music here! That would be great!”

“YEAH!! THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!!”

We played and sang couple songs where you can see the waterfall very clearly. After we played some songs the boy’s mother asked us “Do you wanna join us for a dinner maybe? You can stay with us for a night if you want!” After we said “Thank you” the boy got so excited to have us at his home.
