今日は朝6:45起床！8時には出発！
本日の目的地はJayが夏場だけ働いていたというキャンプ地「Camp Fowler」！
Today, we woke up at 6:45AM and left the campsite by 8AM!! It’s pretty early for us, probably the earliest so far.
Our destination for today was to get to Camp Fowler where Jay used to work for couple of his summers.
昨日既に近くまで来ていたため、朝の10:30までには無事到着。
素敵な教会があるということで朝早くに来たのですが、今日は残念ながらミサはないとのことでした。
We were already pretty close to Camp Fowler yesterday so we were able to get there by 10:30 AM, when we thought there would be a church service with some music. However, unfortunately they didn’t have a service for today.
教会はとにかく音の響きが凄く、壁にはギターも飾られていて、素敵な空間でした。
However, the church has very nice resonance because of its architecture. There are guitars and other instruments on their walls, very nice space.
キャンプ地のマネージャーと会い、お話すると今日泊めていただける宿にてまずシャワーを浴びてからお昼を食べに行こうということに。
We met the manager of Camp Fowler who Jay used to work for, and he told us to take a shower and make ourselves comfortable, and let’s go out for a lunch together.
朝シャワー気持ちいい(><)
シャワー後にお昼を一緒にということでお出かけ。
Morning showers are the best!! It felt really nice!!
てっきりマネージャーとJayと僕の3人かと思いきや、ここで働く人たちも次から次へと車に乗って来られ、感覚的には大学のキャンパスバス。
最終的には11人でレストランへ行くことになりました。
At first I thought it was going to be only us and the manager, however as we got in the van, more and more people came in. It felt like the campus bus I had at my college. There were a total of 11 people and a birthday dog.
ここで働くスタッフたちは大学生や大学を卒業したばかりという方が多く、夏休みの間、冬休みの間といった形で働いている人が多いようでした。
People who work as staff here are most likely college students or people who just graduated from college. It seems like a popular job for summer vacation and for winter vacation.
Jayがここで働いていた時はベッドが20個ある団体の小屋に住んでいたようで、その小屋以外での携帯電話使用は禁止されていたそうです。
何故ならここに来る人たちは自然を求めに来ているわけで、携帯はその考えに反しているからです。
それになにより電波がありません。
(携帯の機種によっては繋がるようですが、強くは無い)
When Jay used to work for his summer here, he stayed at a cottage where 20 beds are there. Their rule was not to use or take phones outside of their cottage. People who come to Camp Fowler are here to feel nature. Staff having a phone outside is against that mentality. AND there is not much signals for phones anyway.
外には街灯もほとんどないので夜は星空がとにかく綺麗でした。
When you go outside at nighttime, you barely see anything. It’s literary black and dark!! Therefore when you look up at the sky, you’ll be amazed how beautifully you can see all the small and big stars!
これまでで星が1番綺麗に見えたと感じた場所は日本の高知県四万十川のあたりでしたが、今日からはここに上書きです。
The best spot I’ve seen a beautiful sky with stars was at Shimanto River in Kouchi Prefecture in Japan. However now, for me, it’s here.
ミルキーウェイという星々の雲がかったようなものまで見え、森に囲まれた1箇所のスポットライトなどではなく、あたり一帯を見回せるほどの輝きでした。
You can even see the Milky Way in the sky and not like in a small clearing surrounded by trees but you can look around everywhere for the stars.
今日は日中、水筆ではなく、本格的な筆を使っての水彩スケッチをしました！
Today, during the daytime, I did a sketch with not the water brush I always use, however with some serious brushes and materials I have with me. (Still a watercolor sketch)
TITLE : Cormorant under sunshine by a lake
鳥の種類はCormorantという鳥で、しばらく絵を描いていると、太陽が表に現れた瞬間、身体を背にし、羽を大きく広げたままポーズしました！
The bird is called Cormorant and while I was doing the sketch, it started to make a pose with stretching out its wings when the sun came outside from behind the clouds.
陽が隠れると絵のような態勢に戻り、再び陽が現れると、再び羽を広げる。
湖に突っ込んだかした後で羽を乾かしていたのでしょう。
When the sunshine went away, it put back its wings just like in my sketch, then when the sunshine came out again, it stretched its wings again.
Probably it was after jumping into a lake and trying to dry its wings by sunshine.
もう少し描き始めるのが後だったら翼を広げた姿が絵になっていたのでしょうが、これはこれで良し。
If I started doing the sketch a little bit later, I would have sketched the pose it did with stretching its wings. Anyway, this pose in my sketch is cool too.
明日は再び別の街へ。
Tomorrow we are going to move again!
